Physical Therapy Students Featured in National MagazineMarch 29, 2010The March 2010 issue of PT in Motion features University of South Florida physical therapy students in an article on how student-run pro bono clinics are benefiting patients and future physical therapists. USF Health neurologist is lead author for new American Academy of Neurology guidelineMarch 15, 2010Theresa Zesiewicz, MD, professor of neurology at the University of South Florida is the lead author of a new national guideline for treating nonmotor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. The research is published in the March 16, 2010 issue of Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN). “More than 90 percent of patients with Parkinson’s have sleep disorders, and over 50 percent suffer from depression or mood disorders. USF Physician to appear on national television programMarch 5, 2010USF Health dermatologist Philip Shenefelt, MD, will appear 8 p.m., Monday, March 8, on Discovery Health’s popular television show Mystery Diagnosis. The program follows Dr. Shenefelt’s patient Diane Dike in her journey to find out why a condition that began with a swollen foot later progressed to her legs turning completely black. Dr. Shenefelt’s diagnosis and treatment were Diane’s last hope in a long and painful process enduring many misdiagnoses, which left her with little hope. USF Health physician now holds top post of World Allergy OrganizationFebruary 11, 2010Dr. Richard Lockey, who leads USF Health’s nationally-recognized Division of Allergy and Immunology, became president of the World Allergy Organization this January. Dr. Lockey, Distinguished University Health Professor and director of Allergy and Immunology at USF and James A. New faculty member helps patients understand diabetesFebruary 3, 2010USF faculty member Laura Williams, PhD, is a clinical psychologist who specializes in treating people with diabetes. Dr. Williams was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was 21. She wears an insulin pump and copes with her own anxieties by helping others face theirs. USF researcher receives top award for malaria expertiseJanuary 26, 2010Wilbur Milhous, PhD, associate dean and global health professor, was awarded the prestigious LePrince Medal for outstanding contributions to the study of malaria. He is the latest of only 22 recipients of the medal, which the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene has awarded once every three years since 1951 (including twice to two recipients).
