USF gets $1.3M federal grant to train state’s nursing faculty in high-tech healthcare

Tampa, FL (August 12, 2010) – The University of South Florida College of Nursing has received a five-year, $1.3-million federal grant to train nursing faculty throughout the state in the use of simulation learning, informatics and telehealth. The University of South Florida has launched a multidisciplinary center with expertise in managing postconcussive syndrome, the sometimes disabling symptoms that linger after a concussion — even long after a seemingly mild head injury. Jackson Lab and USF partner for biomedical village

Aetna and the Aetna Foundation have awarded $47,500 to the University of South Florida (USF) to support the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile, which is targeting obesity among underserved students in the Tampa area.   The USF Pediatrics Mobile Health Program has provided care to more than 5,000 children and teens since 2006, visiting 59 schools in Hillsborough County and providing the equivalent of more than $1 million in free medical services. USF Health School of Physical Therapy houses cutting edge laboratory

The new Human Functional Performance Laboratory in USF’s School of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences features equipment specially designed to assess human movement and function, including the basic functions of walking, balance, range of motion, and endurance.   Nearly 6,000 square feet of space is devoted to the Human Functional Performance Laboratory, which is housed in Rehabilitation Sciences area of the MDT building on the USF campus. The University of South Florida is receiving nearly $6 million through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for its PaperFree Florida initiative.
