USF Health faculty receive inaugural Veterans Reintegration Research Awards

Two USF Health faculty members were among eight principal investigators of the University’s first seed grants to spur interdisciplinary research aimed at rehabilitating military veterans and helping them adjust and reintegrate into civilian life. In Memoriam: Dr. Michael Sloan

Michael Sloan, MD, professor of neurology at USF Health who directed the Comprehensive Stroke Center at Tampa General Hospital, died Sept. 9, 2011. He was 57. Dr. Sloan was a major authority in stroke who made substantial contributions to the advances in the field over the past 20 years. Because of his seemingly tireless efforts to provide much-needed medical care to the communities both near USF and in the Dominican Republic, Eduardo Gonzalez, associate professor in the Department of Family Medicine, has been selected as this year’s recipient of the Hispanic Pathways Award in the tenured faculty category. A new front door for USF Health

                          Here’s a first look at the newest changes planned for the renovations of the USF Health campus. Highlights from first day of classes at USF Health

As USF celebrated its first day of the fall semester, USF Health welcomed the first 53-strong charter class in its brand new College of Pharmacy. Earlier this month, the College of Medicine saw the largest class ever begin, with 19 additional students in the SELECT program. USF PT Jason Highsmith to deliver keynote lecture at international meeting on prosthetics

Jason Highsmith, DPT, assistant professor of the USF School of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences, has been invited to deliver the Brian Blatchford lecture at the 2011 Annual Scientific Meeting of the International Society of Prosthetists and Orthotists (ISPO). Byrd Alzheimer’s Institute gets USF Health’s first PET/CT scan It was delivered on schedule Aug. 1 — all 13,000 pounds of the $1.3-million-dollar baby. By crane, not by stork. With precision logistics, USF Health’s first PET/CT scan system was safely hoisted for installation onto the second floor of the Byrd Alzheimer’s Institute. The high-tech neuroimaging equipment will be a key piece of the Institute’s new Complete Alzheimer’s C.A.R.E. USF’s largest class of first-year medical students enters a profession on the verge of revolutionary changes in health care The largest incoming class in the history of the USF College of Medicine was welcomed into the profession at Friday’s White Coat ceremony.
