Dr. Dickey returned to USF in 2006, where he pursues Alzheimer’s disease research through a $900,000 “Pathway to Independence” grant from the National Institutes of Health. He is also a 2007 recipient of the Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation/AFAR New Investigator Award in Alzheimer’s disease, and was awarded two grants from the Society for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Research to study the mechanisms behind this particular form of hereditary dementia.
AFAR Florida was established in 2008 to expand the national American Federation of Aging Research organization’s efforts to support research on aging regionally.
The Florida affiliate partners with area universities, like-minded community groups, foundations and business leaders to provide research grants to Florida’s best and brightest PhDs and MDs in the field of aging research, to increase funds to scientists at Florida-based educational institutions, and to create educational opportunities that support the exchange of ideas and sharing of new discoveries about healthy aging.
