Top reproductive endocrinologist rejoins USF medical faculty
Dr. Barry S. Verkauf
February 25, 2010 (Tampa, FL) — Barry S. Verkauf, MD, rejoined USF Health on March 1 as a professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology – USF IVF and Reproductive Endocrinology. In 1974, Dr. Verkauf was one of the early members of the USF College of Medicine, and kept ties to the university through 2003.
Dr. Verkauf was one of the first board-certified reproductive endocrinologists in the Southeast, and in 1980 established a respected private practice in Tampa specializing in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. He is responsible for the first IVF live birth from Florida and was and founding member of the Reproductive Medicine Group, one of the largest and most prominent groups in this specialty in the Southeast.
Dr. Verkauf will see patients at the USF Health South Tampa Center for Advanced Healthcare on the Tampa General Hospital campus, practicing in the specialties of gynecology, reproductive endocrinology and infertility. His primary areas of interest are general infertility; assisted reproductive technology;hormonal disorders of puberty; reproductive life, including polycystic ovarian syndrome; menopause; and women’s sexual health.
In 1997 Dr. Verkauf earned an MBA degree from the University of South Florida School of Business. He is a member of the American College of Physician Executives and a Certified Physician Executive of that college. Dr. Verkauf is the delegate to the American Medical Association from the American Society for Reproductive Medicine representing all members of his specialty in that organization. He has consistently been selected by his peers to Best Doctors in America and Top Doctors in Tampa Bay, as well as being chosen for Cambridge Who’s Who for professional accomplishments. He has also contributed numerous articles to peer-reviewed publications, edited a book on congenital anomalies, and written a text on practicing medicine efficiently and profitably.
