Broadway Rocks! to benefit Parkinson's research and care
Broadway Rocks! — the 9th Annual Hope Through Research Gala to benefit the University of South Florida Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Center — will be held 6:30 to 10 p.m., Saturday evening, Sept. 25, at the STRAZ Performing Arts Center Morsani Theatre, 1010 W.C. MacInnes Place, in Tampa.
The event will include a food and wine tasting, silent auction and Tampa’s “Frank Sinatra” Dr. Marty Bialow. The festivities will be followed by the musical revue Broadway Rocks! featuring a musical revue by the STRAZ Performing Arts Center cabaret singers.
Proceeds will help support research, patient care and outreach at the USF Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Center, which is designated a National Parkinson’s Foundation Center of Excellence.
Established in 1986, the Center, directed by Dr. Robert Hauser, treats patients with Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders including tremor, dystonia, Huntington’s disease and restless legs syndrome. One of the country’s top sites for testing new medications for Parkinson’s disease, the Center is also working to refine new surgeries and develop innovative cell-based therapies to offer hope for patients who no longer benefit from drug therapy. The Center provides therapeutic Tai chi classes designed for Parkinson’s patients and their caregivers across the greater Tampa Bay area.
