MCOM + HI Grand Opening
January 8, 2020
Article By Sarah Worth
The new USF Health Morsani College of Medicine and Heart Institute officially opened Jan. 8, 2020, when USF friends, supporters, faculty, staff and students cut through a long white ribbon, signifying the culmination of nearly five years of design and construction on the 13-story building that will help attract the best in education and research.
Gathering in the building’s auditorium, guests filled the seats and lined the walls along the side and back of the room. Many held their cell phones high above the crowd to capture the symbolic moment themselves. And local news media stood atop a riser, getting a clear video shot of the stage.
Then everyone paused, waiting as dignitaries held steady with scissors in hand. On cue, they all sliced through the ribbon, and the room filled with applause – a world-class facility that will transform medical education delivery and generate millions of dollars in annual economic impact is officially opened.

MCOM Inside: Where Business Analytics Meets Student Success
October 24, 2019
By Freddie Coleman
Big data and real-time analytics are helping the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine (MCOM) track the coursework and efforts of medical students to better identify areas of struggle. The result is not only an enhanced education experience but also a direct impact on student success. Tracking the curriculum as a whole and how students perform within it provides a large data set that can help identify which courses correlate to good and bad outcomes later, such as the link with struggles in a course to low scores on medical licensing exams. As a result, the curriculum team is able to connect with students early to identify ways to support them and help them improve their work, and may even adjust the timing of certain courses to improve exam performance. MCOM Inside: Florida Blue Health Knowledge Exchange
October 18, 2019
By Torie Doll
A library is traditionally thought of as a place kept under strict orders of silence and is filled with wall-to-wall books that have a nostalgic, musty smell. While group study rooms are available, they are not the central focus. The Florida Blue Health Knowledge Exchange is the future of medical libraries: an epicenter of collaboration and technology. Located on the second-floor mezzanine of the new USF Health Morsani College of Medicine and Heart Institute (MCOM+HI) in Water Street Tampa, the Florida Blue Health Knowledge Exchange is an almost completely digital database of medical information. At this time, there are only 18 physical books reserved for MCOM’s use in the Knowledge Exchange. LEARN MORE
