Top Stories of 2019

As we close out another year we wanted to look back to some of the top stories of 2019 for our School.  They are in no particular order and reflect the top stories read on our website and on our social media.

#1 New Flexible Learning Classroom

This past fall we opened our new Flexible Learning Classroom that can accommodate over 100 people, and can be reconfigured for lecture, lab, or group seminar discussions. Learn more Here.

#2 Welcoming the Class of 2022

This past fall we welcomed the Class of 2022 to campus on August 12. The class is comprised of 48 students with an average GPA of 3.7, and hailing from top universities in the U.S. This class also won our annual Cheeseburger in Paradise 2019 field games!

#3 Graduation of the Class of 2019

August 2nd and 3rd this year we celebrated the graduation of the Class of 2019 with our annual Graduation Celebration and their Commencement at the USF Yuengling Center. Read more HERE.

#4 Dr. Swisher Looking Towards Retirement

The USF Health School of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences was founded in 1998 and part of the founding faculty was Laura Lee “Dolly” Swisher, PT, PhD, FAPTA, now director and professor of the School of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences. An instrumental part of the school’s achievements over the past 21 years, Dr. Swisher is stepping down from her position as director at the end of December and returning to her faculty appointment for Spring 2020 before fully retiring next summer. #5 Commitment to Professionalism Ceremony

On April 5, 2019 the University of South Florida School of Physical Therapy held their annual Commitment to Professionalism Ceremony for the Class of 2021. The ceremony marks the time in which the students are welcomed into the profession by receiving their first White Coat, and they take a special Oath of Professionalism that the class creates. #6 Dr. Swisher Co-authors New Book

Dr. Laura Lee “Dolly” Swisher’s book, Rehabilitation Ethics for Inteprofessional Practive was published this year. The book was co-authored with Dr. Charlotte Royeen and introduces a common language and theory for interdisciplinary ethics education and practice while establishing a moral foundation and guiding readers in how to put ethical principles into action.

#7 Baby Day 2019

Our annual Baby Day was held on February 15 as part of our Pediatric Physical Therapy course overseen by Dr. Holloway. The day brings children under the age of 14 to campus for our students to administer and interpret tests commonly used in pediatric physical therapy. Read more HERE.

#8 Orthopaedic Journal Feature

This fall our School was featured in the American Physical Therapy Association Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Practice Journal. In this issue they focused on three residency case reports and three DPT capstone systematic reviews completed by our faculty, students, alums, and orthopaedic residents. #9 USF Health PT Center Recognized

Our University of South Florida (USF) Health Physical Therapy Center was recognized for receiving the highest Press Ganey patient satisfaction percentage for the USF Health Physical Group in the 1st quarter of 2019. Read more HERE.

#10 Walk MS Tampa

Our School and students participated in the Walk MS Tampa 2019. Our students raised over $2,500 for the National MS Society, and participated in the walk that was on April 5 in Tampa. Read more HERE.
