Seven USF Health SPTRS DPT students recently met with the Minority Pre-Professional Science Society (MPSS) at the USF Tampa campus. Along with Dr William Quillen, Director of the School, SPTRS was represented by Jasmine Evans, Justine Boyce, and Kristina Peart from the DPT Class of 2015; Kendra Smothers and Horace Howard from the DPT Class of 2016; and Shoshanna Rahming and Sarah Thompson from the DPT Class of 2017. The group viewed a video produced by the American Physical Therapy Association titled “Why I Chose a Career in Physical Therapy.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtZnfL99nuk&feature=player_embedded

MPSS is the undergraduate chapter of the Student National Medical Association and is focused on the needs and concerns of undergraduate pre-medical minority students. The society is dedicated to ensuring that education and services are culturally sensitive to the needs of minorities and to increase the number of minority students to complete their pre-medical core curriculum. They strive to promote minority student interest in health professions; enhance the competitiveness of students’ test scores; provide scholarships as well as a support network that empowers students to be academically successful.
