According to the National Council of Aging, falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries for older Americans. Additionally, falls contribute to the growing cost of rehabilitation and can affect one’s quality of life. The 9th annual Falls Prevention Awareness Day (FPAD) is recognized on September 22, 2016. Physical Therapists play an active role in fall prevention by educating patients on areas in which balance may be impacted. “By establishing programs, like the Free from Falls Program, we can help educate and empower individuals on improving fall prevention within their own lives,” Jamie Dolley, SPTRS 3rd year student.
