The month of October is recognized as National Physical Therapy Month (NPTM). This year, APTA continues to spread awareness regarding the opioid epidemic our nation faces. Individuals who are prescribed opioids as a method of pain relief are faced with health risks of depression, overdose, and addiction. According to the CDC, 1 in 4 people who receive prescription opioids long-term for noncancerous pain may struggle with addiction. Patients are urged not to risk their health in order to manage pain.
Physical Therapists can assist by treating patients with chronic pain through safe and effective techniques. They are able to help individuals manage pain level, improve mobility, and restore function. Treatment plans are identified and tailored to each patient in order to improve their overall quality of life. Pain is personal, treating pain takes teamwork.
