Military Medicine Special Issue Features SPTRS Authors

USF Health SPTRS faculty and staff were recognized as contributors in the special issue of Military Medicine, Raising the Bar: Extremity Trauma Care. Dr. Jason Highsmith was co-author on three publications in this issue. He served as lead author on Differences in Military Obstacle Course Performance Between Three Energy-Storing and Shock-Adapting Prosthetic Feet in High-Functioning Transtibial Amputees, along with SPTRS co-authors, Dr. William S. Quillen, SPTRS Director and Senior Associate Dean with USF Health; Dr. Seok Hun Kim, Associate Professor; and Dr. Rebecca Miro, Unit Research Administrator.

The article is the culmination of research conducted via a US Department of Defense grant for which Dr. Quillen served as the principal investigator and Dr. Highsmith as the co-principal investigator. Research subjects were recruited from a military treatment facility whose focus is amputee rehabilitation.

Laboratory testing was conducted in the USF Health School of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences Human Functional Performance Laboratory. Field testing was conducted at the Hillsborough County SWAT team obstacle course in collaboration with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
