Researchers from the University of South Florida and Baylor University are studying prevention of the epidemic problem of low back pain. This research will be presented by Lt Col John D. Childs PT, PhD, MBA (USAF) at the annual American Occupational Health Conference held in San Antonio, Texas in late April.
Following the theme “Promoting Readiness Through Research,” the presentation is titled “Effects of Lumbar Extensor Progressive Resistance Exercise Versus Core Stabilization Exercise on Low Back Strength and Endurance in Soldiers: Preliminary Results of a Randomized Clinical Trial.” The study is funded through the US Army Medical Department, Medical Research and Material Command.
Dr. John Mayer, Lincoln Endowed Chair of Chiropractic & Biomechanical Research and Coordinator of Research; and Dr. Sandy Quillen, Director of SPTRS and Associate Dean of MCOM, are co-investigators of the study, along with MAJ Shane Koppenhaver, PT, PhD (USA); CPT Will Pitt, PT, DPT (USA); and study coordinator Brett D. Neilson, PT DPT.
