The 2019 Special Olympics Florida State Summer Games were held in Orlando at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex on June 17-20 . We had eighteen of our current Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) students, one of our Orthopaedic Residents, and three faculty members, Dr. Seok Hun Kim, Dr. Angela Stagliano, and Dr. Dana Webb attended. The students and faculty members helped with the FUNFitness Healthy Athletes Screening process on two days during the Games. As part of the screening they assisted with identifying athlete fitness needs, helped athletes to improve balance, flexibility, and strength, and they helped educate athletes, families, and coaches.
The University of South Florida School of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences has been helping the Special Olympics Florida for over 6 years now during their various events across the state. To learn more about the Special Olympics Florida visit: specialolympicsflorida.org.
