Shayne Tarrance, PT, DPT, WCS, BCB-PMD, Assistant Professor was recently appointed to the clinical practice guidelines (CPG) steering committee of the Academy of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy (APHPT). There are only five individuals appointed to this committee for three-year terms to develop guidelines to ensure pelvic health clinical practice is drive by evidence-based medicine. They will prioritize the APHPT mission, develop a timeline for GPGs, and determine which CPGs need to be prioritized for clinical practice.
Dr. Tarrance is excited to help APHPT develop evidence-based standards for clinical care and issues that physical therapists might see in the pelvic health arena. She hopes to not only increase her own knowledge in this role but also help other physical therapists as well. She hopes that creating these CPGs will help drive the profession forward and prevent clinicians from “just doing what they have always done” when it comes to pelvic health physical therapy.
Dr. Tarrance helps run our pelvic health clinic at both the USF Health Physical Therapy center in North Tampa and also provides services at the Pamela Muma Women’s Center in South Tampa. She specializes in pelvic floor dysfunction in both men and women and has been a Women’s Certified Specialist for over 23 years.
