Jillian Donohue and Zazu Garate, 2nd year DPT students in the Class of 2015, recently attended a Student-Run Free Clinic Conference held in Nashville, Tennessee on February 1, 2014. Hosted by the Society of Student-Run Free Clinics, the conference invited students from all aspects of healthcare (Medicine, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Nursing, Dentistry, and Social Work) who are involved in student-run clinics and featured posters and oral presentations about the various clinic models.
Ms. Donohue and Ms. Garate presented a poster on patient attendance at the BRIDGE Healthcare Clinic, a student-run free clinic where they both volunteer at the University of South Florida. At BRIDGE (Building Relationships and Initiatives Dedicated to Gaining Equality), underserved patients receive free care through the collaboration of medicine, physical therapy, social work, public health, and pharmacy volunteer providers and faculty-supervised students in health professions.
