The newest class of USF School of Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Sciences Doctor of Physical Therapy students recited a solemn oath to practice compassionate, patient-centered care before an audience of their family and friends during the School’s 12th Annual Commitment to Professionalism Ceremony on October 17, 2013. The occasion commemorates a significant step for the 38 students in USF’s Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) program and symbolizes their entry into the community of physical therapy professionals.

The procession into the ballroom of the Marshall Student Center was led by a kilt-clad bagpipe player with a unique connection to the School. Bagpiper Dr. Gregory Nicolosi is a former Professor of Physiology in the College of Medicine. In the 1990’s he was Executive Associate Vice President and interim dean/vice president and helped to found the USF the School of Physical Therapy. The school has named an award in his honor.

Janet Krout, DPT 2016 Class President, led the students as they recited their Commitment to Professionalism Oath. Faculty mentors then presented each student with a white coat, compliments of donors from across USF Health and the Tampa Bay community.

This year’s keynote address was delivered by Mary Jane Harris, Director of the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education. Words of Wisdom for the new class were also offered by Ayla Olk-Szost, President of the USF Association of Physical Therapy Students.
