DPT Class of 2017 students Roberto Aponte, Jamie Dolley, David Hoke, and Lucas Simari collaborated with faculty mentors Dr. Seok Hun Kim (SPTRS) and Dr. Kyle Reed (Mechanical Engineering) on a poster presentation entitled “Gait Symmetry Following Sand-Assisted Locomotor Training.” The presentation won the Best MCOM Graduate Student Poster Presentation in Clinical Science Research.

 

USF Physical Therapy Center Coordinator, Dr. Kyle Watterson, is also a doctoral student in the Health Policy and Management program of the USF College of Public Health. His sole-authored poster presentation of “Nowhere to Hide: Using Hospital Patient Encounter Data to Reveal Medical Practice Outliers,” won one of the awards for Best College of Public Health Poster Presentation.

In conjunction with Multiple Sclerosis awareness month, Ms. Jeannie Stephenson, PT, MS, NCS delivered a lecture sponsored by the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America on Monday evening, March 10, at the Tampa Marriott Westshore. Her address focused on Multiple Sclerosis (MS) rehabilitation, specifically the physical therapists role in MS Rehabilitation. She also discussed recent research evidence on the benefits of exercise for people with MS.

The Multiple Sclerosis Association of America (MSAA) is a national, nonprofit organization and leading resource for the entire MS community, dedicated to improving lives through vital services and support to people with MS, their families and their care partners.

Over 800 applications were received this admissions cycle. All completed applications on file with PTCAS by the November 15th deadline will be reviewed by the SPTRS Student Selection Committee. Notification letters to students offered enrollment in the DPT Class of 2015 or placed on the Waiting List of qualified alternates will be mailed on/about February 1, 2012.

Larry Mengelkoch, Huny Kim and Sandy Quillen from SPTRS will be joined by Dr. Theresa Chisholm from CSD in the conduct of the study.

The University of South Florida School of Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Sciences has received a $1.59-million U.S. Department of Defense award for leading-edge musculoskeletal research intended to benefit active duty soldiers and veterans and improve military preparedness. The award will fund two major studies – one investigating whether a specific exercise training regimen may protect against low back injury in combat soldiers and the second evaluating the best prosthetic foot to accommodate soldiers and veterans with below-the-knee amputations who wish to return to active duty.
