USF College of Nursing Welcomes Christina McCrae and McCrae Sleep Research Lab
Christina S. McCrae, PhD, DBSM has joined the University of South Florida College of Nursing as Professor (Tenured) and Assistant Dean of Research, reporting to Dr. Stephanie Marhefka, senior associate dean of research. McCrae, a committed and highly regarded mentor, is tasked with instituting processes and providing venues for promoting early-career faculty development and scientific growth.
For more than 20 years, McCrae has steadily built a robust portfolio of scientific, administrative, and leadership accomplishments since earning her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Washington University in St. Louis. As a scientist and principal investigator, McCrae has assembled an internationally and nationally recognized program of sleep research and has been awarded over $11.5 million in federal research funding since 2005–largely from the U.S. National Institutes of Health and the U.S. Department of Defense. She served as a founder and President of a new professional society, the Society of Behavioral Sleep Medicine (SBSM) where she developed the society’s position paper policy, published its first position paper, and earned a Distinguished Service Award. Other national leadership experiences include chairing or serving on numerous committees and the executive board for the American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM), the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) and participating in review panels for the National Institutes of Health.
