MCHSO to host 14th annual symposium, this year focusing on reproductive justice
The USF College of Public Health’s (COPH) Maternal Child Health Student Organization (MCHSO) will host its 14th annual spring symposium this year from March 23-24. This year’s event will focus on reproductive justice.
The MCHSO is an organization that serves as a forum for all students (regardless of major) interested in maternal and child health (MCH) issues. The group increases awareness about MCH matters and connects students with service, learning and mentoring opportunities.
Speakers from around the state and even the U.K. will tackle tough topics such as breastfeeding policies, domestic violence and substance use during pregnancy, among others.
“We hope attendees will learn that reproductive justice is more than just a buzzword,” said Sara Stubben, MCHSO research and education chair.
“This symposium will help attendees as future leaders in public health and in their private lives,” added Maret Wachira, MCHSO symposium planning committee member. “As a mother and community volunteer with the Tampa Bay Breastfeeding Task Force, I see how reproductive justice affects our everyday lives.”
The symposium will be held both in person at the Marshall Student Center and virtually on Microsoft Teams. Lunch will be served on Thursday, March 23 for in-person attendees. This event is open to all students, faculty and community members. It has also been approved for IPE, P2P and Global Citizens.
