Undergraduates students interested in the health professions may now apply for the USF College of Public Health’s Health Scholar program.

The new program is offered to first-time-in-college students who want to earn a bachelor of science in public health (BSPH) degree, according to Dr. Kay Perrin, associate professor and assistant dean of undergraduate studies.

Health Scholars will be exposed to supplemental public health experiences while earning their degree, such as taking part in service learning, USF Health faculty affiliated research and leadership development.

Students will also be able to apply for additional funding toward academic endeavors of their choice, according to Perrin.

“It is a chance for BSPH students to get involved at a higher level,” Perrin said. “If they maintained the required GPA, they will have the opportunity to work with faculty on research projects, apply for funding to study abroad and to attend national conferences.”

According to Perrin, the program is currently accepting and reviewing applications. Students who are accepted will be notified before the fall 2017 semester concludes.
