Nicole Johnson, MPH, executive director of Bringing Science Home at USF Health, was recently elected to the International Board of Directors for JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation), the largest charitable supporter of type 1 diabetes research.

In her 4-year term on the Board, Johnson serves on the Research Committee and the Marketing/Communications Committee, where she brings her insight and expertise in public health and communications to International diabetes policy, research and practice.

Johnson, who has lived with type 1 diabetes for almost 20 years, was crowned Miss America in 1999 and now works to promote awareness, prevention and early detection of diabetes.

JDRF has awarded more than $1.6 billion to diabetes research.  More than 80 percent of JDRF’s expenditures directly support diabetes research.
