COPH alumnus is the first Bull to receive CDC Informatics Fellowship

| Global Health, Monday Letter, Our Alumni

Bradley B. Biggers (GH/MIPC, ’08) is a member of the CDC Public Health Informatics Fellowship Class of 2012 and the first USF alumnus to participate in the program. He and other health professionals will learn how to apply technology to the practice of public health.

His two-year assignment is with the Assessment Branch of the Immunization Division on a project to assess immunization information data collection systems, such as the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, the National Immunization Survey and the National Health Interview Survey.

The fellowship begins on June 18. In the meantime, Biggers and his family are preparing for the move to Atlanta.

As a Master’s International Peace Corps student, Biggers completed his Peace Corp service in Kenya. Soon after graduation, he was accepted into the Management Academy for Public Health. The UNC-Chapel Hill program teaches public health leadership, business planning and management skills.  In 2011, Biggers participated in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health IT Workforce Training Program. Most recently, he worked as a health data analyst for the Gaston County Health Department in Gastonia, North Carolina.

Every fall, the college partners with the CDC Public Health Informatics Fellowship program director and hosts a webinar in the COPH. The information session is free and open to all students and alumni in USF Health.
