Dr. John Armstrong, chief medical officer for the USF Health Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation (CAMLS), has been appointed to serve as State Surgeon General and Secretary of the Florida Department of Health by Governor Rick Scott. He will assume the new role on May 23.
Dr. Armstrong joined USF in 2011 and worked with Dr. Deborah Sutherland and other members of the CAMLS leadership team to help launch the innovative center, which is helping lead the transformation of how health professionals are trained and assessed.
Dr. Armstrong will continue to help CAMLS develop expertise in military medicine and simulation of battlefield surgery. USF Health will begin an international search for the next Chief Medical Officer at CAMLS.
