On April 15, an interprofessional student team from USF Health competed in the National CLARION Healthcare Case Competition at the University of Minnesota, and won second place overall.
The case topic was “Rethinking Shared Visits to Transform Healthcare.” The students presented innovative ideas to enhance the shared visit model at the Community-University Health Care Center (CUHCC) including incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) in check-in, transcription, and check-out processes and staggering patient visits with multiple providers to maximize time, efficiency, and spending while improving the patient experience.
As second place winners, the USF Health students received a $5000 scholarship. The USF Health team also received the “Most Innovative Award,” and team member John Whelan received an award for “Best Presenter.” This was also the first year USF Health hosted a local case competition to select the students to compete in the national case competition.
Dr. Rebecca Ditwiler from the School of Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Sciences, served as the team’s faculty mentor.
This was the sixth year USF Health has competed in the CLARION case competition. In the first year, USF Health placed in the top three.
